My pug has a cataract in her eye, how much will it cost to fix with surgery & is it worth it?

She is 8.5 years old and it seems to bother her quite a bit. She tries to rub her eye all the time.

It really depends on the Veterinary Ophthalmologist that you go to, but around here it averages about $2000. Basically what they do is remove the lens of the eye. They do not replace the lens in the majority of cases.

It depends on how much it is bothering her and you as to whether the surgery would be worth it. The surgery would only marginally improve her vision since she wouldn’t have a lens to focus the light through when the procedure was done, so if that is your reasoning for doing the surgery, then I wouldn’t suggest doing it.

I would suggest talking to your vet about getting a referral to a Veterinary Ophthalmologist for a surgical consult and then going from there.
